Incredible Hulk Recipe

Movie themed cocktails are always popular, and they’re a great way for bartenders and mixologists to get creative! With the seemingly unrelenting popularity of the Marvel franchise, it’s no surprise that someone has come up with a great drink for Incredible Hulk fans.

Of course, there’s no question as to what the color of an Incredible Hulk has to be. Green – sorry, fans of Red Hulk! This one’s all about the original. And it’s certainly an original drink, made with high quality ingredients!

It’s also been called Shrock, Green Eyed Monster, and (in a clue to the ingredients) Hip and Hen. Read on to find out more about this delicious drink, and – most importantly – how to make one!

Origin

Seeing as this is a Marvel themed cocktail, it’s no surprise at all that it comes from the home of Marvel – New York City. But who created it, and why?

Well, the drink was made by a New York bartender called Victor Alvarez. Reportedly, this was during a launch event for a blue colored fruit liqueur called Hpnotiq, one of the two main ingredients of an Incredible Hulk.

As the story goes, Hpnotiq was less popular with men than it was with women, due to having a sweet fruity taste. Apparently, men don’t like that as much! So, according to legend, Alvarez decided to Hulk the drink up a bit!

He added some Hennesy cognac to the fruity Hpnotiq. This instantly turned the sweet blue drink a much greener shade, which of course led to the name Incredible Hulk!

Well, if the men of New York thought Hpnotiq wasn’t tough enough for them, no problem – the Incredible Hulk is tough enough for anyone! Not that it’s lost much of its fruity charm, though!

What You Need To Make An Incredible Hulk Drink

Another great thing about this drink is how easy it is to make! All you need are a few simple ingredients.

Obviously, you’ll need some Hpnotiq! The beautiful blue color of this drink is, after all, one of the base colors of the Incredible Hulk. Hulk isn’t, of course, blue – but mix blue with something more in the yellow part of the spectrum, and that blue color becomes green!

Secondly, you’ll need some cognac – and if you’re after the original flavor and mixture of the Incredible Hulk, you really only have one choice – Hennessey. Hennessy, of course, isn’t bright yellow – it’s definitely closer to brown.

But, this has the right shade to mix with the Hpnotiq to make a much greener color! It’s unlikely to become bright green, despite what some photos may show – but it’s undeniably in the green part of the color spectrum! Close enough for Hulk, anyway!

Ice is a normal part of this cocktail, as it tastes great chilled – but of course, if that’s not to your taste, you can omit it.

Making An Incredible Hulk

The original Incredible Hulk was said to be made with a 50-50 ratio. So, you’ll want to use equal measures of Hpnotiq and Hennessy. Measure carefully!

If you have a favorite mixing tumbler, then by all means break it out – especially if you want to shake some ice in with the drink.

However, you can also mix directly in the glass and stir to mix too – it’s far easier, and the perfect way to mix if you’re not looking to shake it with ice! Simply pour equal measures over ice and stir gently until mixed. There you are – the Incredible Hulk!

Incredible Hulk Variations

As it’s such a simple drink, being only two ingredients, any variations really tend to come in the form of additions. Some drinkers enjoy adding a few hints of bitters to the mixture – if that sounds good to you, then of course add some to taste!

Of course, the simplest way of varying this cocktail is to simply modify the ratios! Add varying amounts of either Hennessy or Hpnotiq to taste. Or, of course, for the color!

You can also try using different brands of cognac! Hennessy is, of course, the original, but there’s nothing wrong with branching out.

Further, you can also try serving with a slice of lime. After all, green seems to be the theme here – as does fruitiness!

Final Thoughts

The Incredible Hulk, then – fruity, yet still with a punch and kick to it! Definitely a novel drink, and once you’ve tried it, you’ll agree it’s more than just a funny name! Have fun with this one – but as always, drink responsibly and safely!
